PRIDE 2012

From all of us at Equality Winston-Salem, THANK YOU for a memorable PRIDE 2012.

Equality Winston-Salem has signed multi-platinum recording artist TAYLOR DAYNE to perform on October 13 at Winston-Salem PRIDE 2012. The Taylor Dayne song “Tell It To My Heart”(  cracked the top ten in late 1987 and was an instant smash worldwide. She was the opening act for Michael Jackson’s “Bad” Tour.  There were 10 more hit songs to follow. In the United States, Ms. Dayne produced three gold singles. The New York-born artist’s three albums for Arista Records produced twelve Top 20 singles. Over the course of her career, she has sold more than 75 million albums and singles worldwide garnering three Grammy nominations along the way. In 2011, at the Hollywood Music in Media Awards, she took home the prize for “Best Original Song/Score in a Movie Trailer” from the movie “The Help.”

Is she a gay icon?  We say yes.  She has performed at major Pride festivals throughout the United States. In 2010, she wrote and performed a new song specifically written for the Gay Games. As a strong gay rights ally she says, “My gay audience and followers are the most loyal and the most fun to perform for. This is a rebirth for me. Call it what you want, but I’m back. We’ve baked the bread. Now it’s time to eat it.”  Winston-Salem will certainly indulge Saturday, October 13with Taylor Dayne.

TAYLOR DAYNE is a chart topping powerhouse singer with a string of #1 Billboard pop hits that shaped the 80′s sound of music. This year Taylor continues to perform and promote her hit CD “Satisfied” which features the hit song “Beautiful.”

Her massive hit songs include:

  • Don’t Rush Me
  • Can’t Get Enough
  • I’ll Always Love You
  • Every Beat Of My Heart
  • I’ll Be Your Shelter
  • Tell It To My Heart
  • Prove Your Love
  • Heart Of Stone
  • Send Me a Lover
  • Naked Without You
  • I’ll Wait

Equality Winston-Salem will host Winston-Salem PRIDE 2012 on Saturday, October 13, 2012. This year’s event follows PRIDE 2011—the first pride event held in Winston-Salem in over 15 years. PRIDE 2011 attracted a diverse crowd of over 5,000 attendees.

Fundraising efforts leading up to PRIDE 2012 included a series of three Gay Bingo events in Winston-Salem. With great support from the community, our Gay Bingo events to date have attracted crowds of 400-600 people and have raised over $25,000 toward PRIDE efforts. More importantly, these events draw a diverse crowd of participants and sponsors—approximately half of those in attendance are our straight allies.

If you or your organization are interested in participating in Pride 2012 as a sponsor, vendor, volunteer, parade participant, etc., please fill out the appropriate online application or contact us at Equality Winston-Salem, PO Box 20382, Winston-Salem, NC 27120-0382 or email us at PRIDE 2012 sponsorship, vendor and parade participant applications are now available.
